It has nearly 400 megabytes of RAM

and approximately 45 gigabytes of hard disk capacity.

Pretty good for the end of the century, it will be obsolete in a few years.

Crunching a typical SETI@home work unit

takes a little over 10 CPU hours

since the second processor was added in December 1999.

I would hazard a guess that this computer

is at least a million times more powerful

than the first real computer I built

more than thirty years ago.

I saved most of the parts

from that first computer

to someday show grandchildren

my primitive relics.

Perhaps one of them

will set it running again

but i doubt it.

A few men have re-discovered

how to flake stone spear points

which were critical technology

for a hundred centuries.

This is different, flashing by in the blink of an LED.

How lame will my fabulous new computer seem

only thirty years from now?

The JA computer is equipped for real-time non-linear video editing.

Video material on the Artwork is in production.

The first video should come out later this year.

How much later is hard to say

as there is a lot happening in parallel.

The computer is not the bottleneck.
